Session Rates

Please refer to the fee schedule below for both psychologists. These rates are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and are current as of 8th July 2024 and are subject to annual review. It is important that you are aware of the fees payable for services provided prior to presenting to your appointment and that you discuss any specific concerns prior to signing the consent form, which will ask for your acknowledgement of, and agreement with, the fees owed. Currently, our fees have not changed since 1st July 2021.

Please Note:

  • Fees are due at the conclusion of an appointment, unless otherwise arranged, and are payable via Direct Funds Transfer (within 48 hours). We do not accept credit card payments (including AMEX).

  • If you fail to pay your invoice within 48 hours after a completed appointment, your invoice is overdue for immediate payment. If you do not confirm payment or contact your psychologist to discuss payment, we reserve the right to refuse service, as per our payment policy.

  • Fees are subject to change. However, this will typically be done only once per annum and we will endeavour to change fees commensurate with increases in the consumer price index (CPI), where possible. Notification of changes to fees will be made no less than a month from the date of change (usually no later than 1st June, each year).

  • For each psychologist, there are different rates of reimbursement when claiming a rebate from Medicare (per session) with a GP Mental Health Care Plan (GPMHCP). For Dr Victoria Carr, the rebate is currently $141.85 per session and for Dr Jonathan Carr, the rebate is currently $96.65 per session.

  • If you have any concerns with our fee schedule, do not hesitate to discuss this with us. If you cannot afford these fees, we can discuss options for you including 'on-referral' to another psychologist and/or mental health service.

RECOMMENDED FEES

The recommended fee schedule suggested by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) at present (1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023), recommends that a 46-60 minute psychology sessions be charged at $311.00 (AUD). As such our session fees are currently $63.00 cheaper per session than the recommended fees.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

Appointments at Phoenix psychology Canberra are very much in demand and vacancies will be booked quickly.

A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment time, without incurring a late cancellation fee.

Notification of cancellation is considered a courtesy and gives enough time for another in need to take the appointment. We will also give you as much notice if we need to reschedule your appointment. The late cancellation fee (48 hours or less notice) may incur a charge of $124.00 (50% of NEW standard session fee). Please give us as much notice as possible, once you become aware you are unable to attend and need to change your appointment time. Please avoid ‘appointment holding’, that is, consistently rebooking just to hold an appointment, as you may now be denied service.

Schemes That May Assist you

These include General Practitioner Mental Health Care or Treatment Plans ( GPMHCP, GPMHTP). They are basically the same plan but can be referred to in two different ways. If you would like to see if you are eligible to access a GMHCP please make a longer appointment time with your GP to discuss such before making an appointment with Phoenix Psychology Canberra. During this process your GP will ask you a lot a questions and may get you to complete a questionnaire about how you have been feeling. If you do obtain a GPMHCP your GP will either give you a copy of the plan and a referral letter or they may fax it to our office directly. Under a GPMHCP you are entitled to up to ten partly rebated psychology sessions per calendar year. The rebate to see a Clinical Psychologist is $141.85, the rebate to see a Health or Generalist Psychologist is $96.65. After your first or second appointment, we will write to you GP to let them know the outcomes of our assessment. At your 6th session, we also undertake a review and another report is sent to your GP informing them about progress, any difficulties and our plans moving forward. We will seek your informed consent to release these reports and discuss overall diagnoses (if any), presenting problems and likely treatment plans, so that your GP can also assist you.

Clients need to keep in mind that GPMHCP sessions are limited and many clients like to space sessions out according to their budgets or the time of year. Of course, though once you have used all your care plan sessions, you can still attend therapy, but there is no further rebate available until you obtain a care plan for the following year. Many clients can also obtain rebates through their private health insurance once they have used up all their sessions partly rebatable through Medicare. Please contact your health fund to discuss whether this is something you are covered for as every fund and package is different. Please note that you are unable to use two rebates at the same time, so you are not able to claim a rebate through Medicare and the remaining through private health insurance.
